Bloomington Endoscopy Center’s Particpation in the ASCA’s Capitol Fly-In Event

On Wednesday, June 18, the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA) held the Capitol Fly-In event, bringing together industry experts to directly lobby their members of Congress. The Bloomington Endoscopy Center was a prominent participant and was proud that their Administrator and IFASC (Indiana Federation of Ambulatory Surgery Centers) Board member, Teleatha Mortimer RN, BSN, CASC, CGRN was able to make personal connections with their legislators. IFASC Executive Director, Carol Blanar, RN, BSN, CASC, also participated. In total, ASCA gathered 85 representatives of the ASC industry and organized 100 plus meetings with House and Senate offices, dozens of which were in-person meeting with the members of Congress themselves.

Bloomington Endoscopy Center and IFASC met with Senators Joe Donnelly and Dan Coats as well as Representatives Todd Young, Larry Bucshon and Jackie Walorski. They were all asked to support legislation that will ensure the viability of ASCs in the community, increase access to colorectal screenings, and allow our centers to effectively implement electronic health record usage.

Several showed interest in visiting BEC for a facility tour to learn more about how ambulatory surgery centers deliver cost effective and efficient healthcare.

BEC and IFASC returned home to take care of patients, but will stay in touch with our representatives, especially as election season rolls in.
